Just for Kids (JFTK) and the Texas Business and Education Coalition (TBEC) named 131 Texas schools to the Statewide Honor Roll in December of 2005. The named schools consisted of eighty-six (86) elementary schools, thirty-three (33) middle schools, and twelve (12) high schools. George West Primary School was among the elite schools chosen for the fourth consecutive year. On January 24, 2006, Mr. Mike McGuire, Partners In Education (PIE) member and Jaime Wehmeyer, former PIE coordinator, presented the teachers and staff of George West Primary with the prestigious award. A selection criterion includes schools showing the most consistent performance in educating all student groups over a three-year period of time. These schools rank highest in the individual peer groups, which are the schools across the state that most closely approximate their size and student population makeup. As stated by John Stevens, Executive Director TBEC, “It is important to the business community of Texas to celebrate these Honor Roll Schools. We are counting on the students of these schools to one day run our state, so it is vital that they be well educated and prepared for the 21st century workplace.” The TBEC/JFTK Honor Roll is underwritten by Washington Mutual, H-E-B and IBM
