GEORGE WEST VS. BLOOMINGTON

GW made the long, cold trip to Bloomington on Thursday to play a district contest that was rescheduled due to inclement weather earlier in the week.  This was a must win game versus a team that has not lost a district game on its home court in almost 3 years.  Bloomington had upset Taft (GW’s only district loss), and played Refugio to a 4 point game at Refugio.  The Bobcats owned 2-2 district record coming into the contest.

The Horns played a solid first half.  Nothing spectacular or flashy, just good basketball…the only problem is that the Bobcats would not go away.  After the half, the Longhorns took 10 point leads, but Bloomington would get it back to 6 or 7.  In the fourth quarter, the Longhorns made outstanding decisions with the basketball, running the offense and fast breaks…unselfish play and knowing when to push the ball lead to many easy lay-ups.  Bloomington finally had to foul but the Horns converted their free throw opportunities.  FINAL SCORE GW 64 – Bloomington 49

GW will be off tonight…Jourdanton was scheduled for tonight, but they had a scheduling conflict and cancelled.  The rest of the district will be playing the last game of the first round of district.  As of today, GW is alone in first place with a 5-1 district record.  (15-7 overall)  Three Rivers (upset Taft last night) is in a second place with Refugio.  Both are 4-1, but they play each other tonight.  Taft and Bloomington are 2-3 going into tonight’s games.  Skidmore – Tynan and Odem round out the district with 1-4 records.  Next Tuesday GW will travel to Odem to begin the 2nd round of district play.  We hope to see you there!
