GEORGE WEST VS. JOURDANTON

Tuesday evening GW finished up the regular season with a non-district contest against Jourdanton.  The Indians came into George West with 20 wins to their credit and a physical mindset.  This game seemed to be going very smoothly for the Longhorns in the first half, as the lead for the home team was 17 points going into the break.  Not much went right for the Horns in the third quarter though, as the pressure and traps from the Indians forced the Horns to turn the ball over.  Jourdanton converted many possessions into lay-ups and free throws, cutting into the GW lead.  A gap that had been 19 points was down to 5 at the end of the third quarter.  Even though 3 starters had fouled out, the bench came up with big minutes to contribute finishing out a big win at home.  The Horns dominated the fourth quarter to seal the victory at the last game in GW this season.  FINAL SCORE:  GW 79 – Jourdanton 63

Thank you to the crowd that was at the game Tuesday and at all the games all season long.  In case you were not aware, George West has a home winning streak of 23 games.  We want to congratulate the team for that accomplishment, but especially this year’s seniors.  This streak started when they were sophomores, and they have not lost a game at home the last two seasons.  There have been some thrilling games in the GW gym the last few years, including: OT win over #3 ranked Goliad, defeating #15 ranked Taft, and many other battles with district opponents fighting for a playoff spot.  The reason the streak is intact is because of all you fans that support our young men every time they go out to play.  Our Team loves playing at home in front of you!  Thank you for your support!

Playoff update:  Many people want to know who we will face in the playoffs.  At the moment, we do not know.  The Bi-District round begins Wednesday, February 21.  The reason for the odd date being on Wednesday is due to the TAKS writing test administered across the state on Tuesday.  GW will face the winner of the Bi-District round in the Area round, Friday the 23rd or Saturday the 24th.  San Antonio Hawkins is representing District 30AA as the runner-up.  Hawkins will face the third place team from District 29AA.  At the moment District 29AA is a mess with a four way tie for 1st place between Poth, Kenedy, Nixon-Smiley, and Stockdale.  They will have play-in games this week to determine the order of who gets in the playoffs.  The following website should help for reference:  http://www.uil.utexas.edu/athletics/brackets/basketball/boys/index.html .  This is the official UIL site, we are at the bottom right of the second page of the bracket.  When we know for sure the time, place, and opponent…we will let everyone know.  Thanks again for your support!
