GEORGE WEST VS. THREE RIVERS
Playing at Three Rivers is always an adventure for George West, no matter what sport. Friday night proved to be no different. The last time these two teams met GW jumped all over TR early and routed them in a 96-47 victory at home. Playing at TR this time, we expected their best shot…only we had to wait till the second half to get it.
In the first quarter, the Horns looked to dominate again as they exploded with an 18-5 lead. The second quarter was more of the same, defensive intensity and pressure was creating easy offensive opportunities. George West looked like it was going to have another big win going into the half.
Three Rivers cut into the 24 point halftime lead in the by hitting FIVE 3-point shots in the second half. The Horns helped the Bulldog cause by missing several lay-ups and free throws. At one point the Longhorns led by only 10 as the Bulldogs would not go away. Towards the end of the game, the Horns made critical free throws, and had one amazing tip-in off of a miss, to hold off Three Rivers. FINAL SCORE: GW 68 – Three Rivers 52

George West improves its overall record to 18-8 and 8-2 in District 31AA play. The win gives the Horns at least a share of a District Championship. To win District outright, GW needs to defeat one of our last two district opponents, Skidmore–Tynan and Bloomington. Both contests will be at HOME this week. Skidmore comes to George West Tuesday, and they have been playing well during the second round of district play. Friday night versus Bloomington will be Parents Night. We hope to see you all in the gym this week!
The GW JV played very well vs. Three Rivers JV on Friday. All of the boys contributed in a complete TEAM effort as the Horns outmatched the Dogs. FINAL SCORE: GWJV 45 – TRJV 23 The win lifts the JV’s overall record to 14-6 and 6-3 in District 31AA competition. The JV will play at 5:00pm against Skidmore – Tynan on Tuesday.
